Working outside your Local jurisdiction
There may come a time when the contractor you are working for asks you to do work that will take you outside your Local's jurisdiction. If this happens there are some things that you should know and do to keep in good standing with the Local that has jurisdiction where you are being sent. Do not rely on the contractor to do any of these things for you. If you do you may find that he has done nothing and you now have a BA from another Local mad at you. Do not ever think that you can sneak in and out of another Local and not get caught.

The first thing you must do is to check in at the Hall of the Local having jurisdiction. You may want to call them first to see what their procedure is. If you are only to be there for a few hours, the phone call may be enough. Some will require you to come to the Hall and fill out paperwork (benefit info, credit union, etc.). This is the same paperwork you would be required to fill out if you were traveling and signing the Book. You may be required to obtain a work permit or a building trades card. Some Locals charge a minimal fee for this.

I do not know of any Local that will not require a contractor to be bonded for work other than a service call. As such, you may get to the hall and find out that they do not have a copy of the bond. If this happens, you have possibly made a wasted trip or will have to have a copy of the bond faxed to the Hall prior to them issuing a work permit or letting you work. Make sure that any bond information is sent prior to you making the trip.

Your time and expenses, including transportation, should be paid for by the contractor.

Always be friendly to the people you deal with at the Hall. The rules they are enforcing were made by the members of that Local not by them. A word of advise would be to buy a cap or shirt or contribute to one of their causes.
